It was captured on a trailer that was next to the new minivan and elegant sedan of the company.

Russia’s automaker Aurus is looking to take a piece of the SUV market that the basic Lada Nick cannot by offering a more expensive product. The vehicle will be called Komendant. It was spotted for the first-time on a trailer in northern Scandinavia. As you can see, the SUV wasn’t alone.

We are looking at an early prototype, considering it is missing the final taillights. The dual exhaust system doesn’t look right unless there are nice finishing touches. We can see that the Komendat had the interior trim missing on the D- and A-pillars. The front door cards, however, looked very basic.

The Komendant is essentially an SUV version of the Senat. Its exterior and interior design are largely unchanged. This is especially true for the interior, where the dashboard appears almost identical. The sedan’s silhouette was modified at the rear to make it more SUV-like. However, the styling of the vehicle will still be inspired by the luxobarge and the alloy wheels.

The new Aurus Komendant, which is very similar to the Senat’s, was developed by the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute (abbreviated NAMI). The 4.4-liter V8 engine will produce 598 horsepower and an impressive 880 Newton-meters (649 pounds-feet.) of torque. It will be equipped with a powerful combustion engine, an electric motor delivering 62 horsepower, a nine speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

Russian news agency TASS claims that Aurus started road testing of the Komendant in August 2019, with five prototypes. After the introduction of the minivan and sedan, series production of the SUV is expected to begin in 2022.
