It will offer the luxury and efficiency of the Continental GT, but with the plug-in hybrid capabilities.
New spy photos of the Bentley Continental GT plug in hybrid appear to show a production-ready example. It still sports W12 engine badges, which is odd.
As the car in the spy shots earlier This one has a square opening at the front grille. This dome-shaped, exposed element is believed to be a driver assistance tech sensor.
The “12” logo is found on the car’s lower front end. This is, however, a red herring. It is not clear that Bentley will use its W12 engine to power a new plug in-hybrid model. The Flying Spur’s PHEV is powered by a 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V6, which produces 536 horsepower (399 Kilowatts) as well as 553 pound-feet (726 Newton meters) of torque.
The driver’s side rear bumper incorporates the door for the charging port. The door for the charging port even grabs the crease running along this area, so the PHEV model is similar to models with other powertrains.
Another red herring may be lurking at the back. These oval-shaped exhaust pipes can be found on the W12 model.
Although we can only see the interior, it looks identical to the standard Continental GT. This is consistent with the way Bentley outfits its other PHEV models.
Bentley will most likely use the Flying Spur’s twin-turbo V6 powertrain. However, our spies believe there may be other options. They speculate about the possibility of a plug-in Continental GT that uses the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. This engine produces 689 horsepower (514 kW). The exterior doesn’t give away much about the engine.
Bentley acknowledged that a plug in hybrid Continental GT was being considered in 2021. According to the company, customers expressed interest in such a model. It makes perfect sense to add the Conti GT, given that Bentayga PHEVs and Flying Spur are already available.
The release date for the Continental GT PHEV is unknown. The vehicle is almost ready for production, however. It wouldn’t surprise us if the unveiling takes place before the end the year.
Over the next 10 years , Bentley will invest PS2.5billion in its UK operations. A portion of the money will be used to create the brand’s first electric car in 2025. This is reportedly a crossover. The plan is to electrify all automaker products by 2030.
