Let the Pride shine.
The 50th anniversary of LGBTQ+ Pride Month is June in the United States. The coronavirus epidemic has caused a halt to traditional celebrations. BMW shows its support for the LGBTQ+ community by offering a stylish and colorful Pride-wrapped 8 Series convertible.
This information comes from BMW’s official USA twitter account and suggests that something else is in the works to celebrate Pride Month. BMW has not yet revealed what this could be, and isn’t sharing any future plans. It will likely include this M850i special, which is also equipped with BMW’s updated logo on the hood.
It’s not the first time BMW has decorated its 8 Series droptop in rainbow trim to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride. A white M850i, designed by Jonathan Adler arrived in New York City last summer for the city’s Pride March. A virtual parade will be held on June 28 in honor of the anniversary of the first march in 1970. However, this year’s parade was cancelled by coronavirus. The event will feature many celebrities and will pay tribute to front-line workers who fought the COVID-19 pandemic which hit New York City particularly hard.
If history repeats itself this year, BMW will likely play a greater role in the virtual parade. A fleet of Adler’s 8 Series convertibles led parade VIPs along the streets last year. This group included over 100,000 people. This year’s event will not be held in real life. There won’t even be grand marshals on the cars. A colorful display-of-force, either on screen or in real life, is sure to grab attention and catch people’s eyes for this 50th-anniversary celebration.
