According to a new report from Germany, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept production version could be called the i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid if it launches in 2013 .

Although we can’t confirm it, it sounds like a strange name for a top-of-the-line model. This model attempts to break with the series-based nomenclature. It does draw inspiration from the M1 moniker. However, i100 is more likely to bring up thoughts of the 1-Series.

Bild reports that the i100 plug-in hybrid will have a 165 (121 kW / 163 bhp ) to 185 PS (336 kW / 182 bhp), three-cylinder engine (likely a Diesel) and two electric motors contributing 100 PS (75 kW /99 bhp). The car will have an electric-only range between 15 and 50 km (9.3 to 33.1 miles).

The aforementioned configuration is almost identical to the VED idea, but Bilder states that the U.S. may get an i100 with a 4-cylinder engine. The German publication claims that the M version will include high-performance capacitors and a six cylinder engine from the next generation M3.

Rumours abound that the EUR100,000. ($130,775) car will make an appearance at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. So stay tuned.
