BMW will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. A new report indicates that the company is currently working on a high performance i8 codenamed M100.
The i8S model is being rumored to be the new model. It will be based on the i8 and have a sportier exterior with a few bespoke parts. Automobile Magazine reports that it will be a two-seater with a tuned suspension, beefier brakes, and wider tires for better grip.
Although powertrain details are kept secret, the company is said to be considering a twin-turbo 2.0 liter four-cylinder with around 320 horsepower (238 kW) or a 3.0-liter six cylinder with roughly 480 HP (358 kW). An electric motor that produces 109 hp (81kW) or 220 bhp (1152kW) will power the front wheels. The i8S can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 3.5 seconds, before reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The i8S will launch in the United States in 2017 if all goes according to plan. It is expected that the model will cost around $175,000.
