Are you looking for the long-awaited CSL or something else?
BMW enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2021. With 2.2 million sold worldwide, the German automaker achieved a new sales record . This is 9.1 percent more than 2020. Although BMW buyers were able to spend more on new vehicles than usual due to favorable economic conditions and chip shortages, there may have been some who wish they had waited a year. The M offices in Munich have confirmed that something special will be happening later this year.
This is not an official confirmation of the M4 CSL. BMW’s press release regarding its record-breaking sales year includes a mention of “an exclusive limited-edition model based upon the new”. BMW M4 Coupe.” This is a short teaser at the end a sentence, but it is significant because this is the first official acknowledgement by BMW that a special M4 version is on the horizon.
It is possible that it be the M4 CSL. Numerous spy photos have shown an M4 with a bold front fascia, new side skirts and a spoiler at the ducktail. This spoiler is an important feature that links to the E46 CSL model from 2004. While this “special-edition” model isn’t yet confirmed, it is likely as close as possible until BMW releases an official press release.
We expect to see more carbon fibre to reduce the M4’s weight when that happens. For even better track performance, we expect suspension upgrades to improve the performance coupe. The 3.0-liter turbo-inline-six engine could produce as much as 550 horsepower (410 megawatts), and it will be channeled to the rear wheels via an eight-speed manual transmission. A manual option is unlikely to be offered.
Rumours suggest that the CSL will debut in summer 2022. This is despite BMW’s acknowledgment of something very special this year. Expect a very small production run, possibly as low as 1,000 units when the covers finally come off.
