Brabham BT62R is a Road-Legal and Everyday Race Car

The most powerful non-turbo V8 available.

The reports of May last year were correct. Brabham modified the BT62 race car in order to make it street-legal in “selected markets”. The final product can be seen in the gallery below. The automaker claims that it is still almost as capable as the real race car, but can now be driven on public roads.

The BT62R is given the R suffix to indicate that it has been transformed into a vehicle that can easily be driven regularly. It also comes with a modified exhaust system that meets all public requirements. The BT62R has an adjustable suspension, an optional air conditioner, and a heated windshield. The changes are completed by a set of new Eagle F1 SuperSport tires, and a modified aerodynamic package.

The manufacturer claims it is the “highest-output, naturally-aspirated V8 on market.” It is a 5.4-liter V8 that produces 700 horsepower (522 Kilowatts) as well as 492 pound-feet (667 Newton meters) of torque. The engine mapping has been modified to allow it to be used on public roads. The six-speed sequential gearbox is standard with paddle shifters and delivers power to the wheels.

Side mirrors and all required public lighting are the final touches to make the BT62R road-legal and road friendly. The digital control panel can also be configured to display images from the reverse camera. At this time, there is no information on pricing or availability.
