The German tuner gives the flagship a significant upgrade.
The Mercedes S-Class is the flagship model of the automaker, and it’s the one to look at. Brabus has a new creation, the Brabus 500. If you are looking for more from its flagship model, Brabus might have it.
Brabus, its tuned versions of Mercedes-Benz and Smart vehicles, is not something we are unfamiliar with, so a tuned S-Class shouldn’t be a surprise. Last year , the W223 model made its global debut. It’s time for the German tuner to get involved and give the top-dog Merc a refreshing aftermarket twist.
Brabus’ tune to the S500’s six cylinder gasoline engine, using its plug-and-play B50-500 PowerXtra module. This allows for an increase in power output to 493 horsepower (368 Kilowatts) or 435 pound-feet (590 Newton meters) of torque. Brabus claims that this reduces acceleration to 0-62 miles an hour (100 km per hour) and 4.7 seconds. Brabus PowerXtra D40 performance kits also give the diesel S400d an upgrade, resulting in a final output of 372 kW (365 hp) and 553 lbft (750 Nm).
Brabus knows that these two S-Class aftermarket upgrade will not be the last. Therefore, we can expect the S580 with its twin-turbo V8 Brabus fix sooner or later.
Brabus enhancements go beyond the engine. OEM-quality aerodynamic enhancement kit are also available. These include a front spoiler and revamped side air intakes, LED side markers and revised rear fascia. Soon, a naked carbon fiber rear spoiler will be available.
The largest visual upgrade is the Brabus Monoblock M Platinum Edition forged alloy wheels measuring 21 inches in diameter. This completes the dark-on-black theme and contrasts with the two-tone Brabus theme.
Prices start at 293,000 euros, or around $350,000. So yes, Brabus upgrades can be expensive. You shouldn’t be shocked, however.
