Brembo Launches LED Brake Calipers with Light-Up Design

You can adjust the color of the light using your smartphone.

Brembo is a global leader in brake technology. But, the new G Sessanta concept for calipers is very strange. These stoppers glow and can be controlled by smartphone apps to change the color.

The video below shows the G Sessanta riding a motorcycle. Our friends at Motor1 Italy Brembo confirmed that the caliper concept can be applied to automobile applications as well.

Brembo views the illuminated calipers having two main applications. They could be cool from an aesthetic standpoint. Imagine driving through a city at night, and having your brakes flash a rainbow of colors.

Alternately, the lights can be used to communicate the brakes with the rider or driver. For example, imagine how helpful it would be to have a red light flashing to inform you to change your brake pads. You could also have them act as extra brake lights, making the vehicle easier to see when you slow down.

Brembo’s 1972 first brake caliper inspired the exterior design of G Sessanta. This shape represents the company’s vision of calipers for the future.

Because of the way the light bounces off of them, it seems like an perfect match for Brembo’s Mirror-finish Greentive Rotors. Brembo stated that the discs last longer than traditional ones when he showed them off last year. Brembo added a cool touch to the discs by creating a logo that appeared on the discs when they were worn enough to inform people it was time for them to be replaced.

Brembo has been working to develop more fashionable calipers for some time. The company presented new concepts for patterned stoppers during the Geneva Motor Show 2019. These designs were made from argyle and orange camouflage as well as neon letters, neon leaves, Keith Haring drawings, and one dragon.
