Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Revealed as The Ultimate 273-MPH Grand Tourer

It’s even rarer than the Super Sport 300+.

Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace achieved a speed of 304.773 mph (4990.484 km/h). This was in 2019, while driving a Chiron-super-sport 300+. To mark the occasion, a production version was limited to 30 examples. Now Molsheim is introducing a new long-tail W16 hypercar. The Super Sport will be more rare than ever as only nine examples will be made.

The Super Sport 300+ was designed after the record-breaking car that was driven on the Ehra-Lessien track in Germany. However, the new Super Sport features a completely different finish. The body has been reworked and is 25 cm longer (9.8 inches) than the standard Chiron. This allows for maximum airflow at high speeds. The quad-turbo, 8.0-liter engine produces an incredible 1,577 horsepower and 1,180 Newton-meters (1.180 pound-feet of torque) through its double stack exhausts.

The new Chiron special edition features redesigned aluminum wheels with five Y-spoke designs and an optional diamond-cut finishing. Customers can also order the magnesium wheels from the Pur Sport to reduce weight.

These new shoes come with the only tires that can withstand speeds up to 311 mph (500 km/h). The bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire is x-rayed to ensure it does not have any small irregularities. These tires have reinforced belts that can withstand the enormous forces. They were tested on the same bench originally designed for the Space Shuttle.

These numbers are simply amazing. The new Chiron SuperSport can reach speeds of 124 mph (220 km/h), in 5.8 seconds, and 186mph (390 km/h), in 12.1 seconds. It’s seven times faster than the standard Chiron, and can go from 0 to 249 MPH (400 km/h). Modifications have been made to the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The seventh gear is now 3.6 percent longer. Fun fact: The SS switches between sixth and seventh at 250 mph (403 km/h).

The latest Chiron, much like the Super Sport 300+ is electronically limited to 273 mph (440 km/h). Bugatti claims that the hypercar is “effortless” and “safe to control.” The ultimate grand tourer, it promises comfort and luxury at all speeds. Production will begin soon, and customers will be able to order their products by early 2022.

Price? Price? This is a good deal considering that the La Voiture Noire, a one-off edition, is three-and-a half times as expensive and yet less powerful.
