Buick GL8 Avenir Luxury Minivan Gets Mild-Hybrid Tech In China

You can order it now for the equivalent of $67572.

Buick’s China-only GL8 Avenir will enter the 2022 model year. It has significant mechanical and visual upgrades. The highlights of the new model include more standard and optional equipment, better ride quality, and, most importantly, a new electrified engine. We’ll get to that in a moment, but let’s focus on the new features.

The GL8 Avenir now comes in a Pearl White exterior color. This color can be combined with Bordeaux Red/Jade White for versions with six or seven seats. Tech-wise, the third-row passengers have access to additional USB charging ports as well as reading lights. The luxury model with four seats will provide you with a luxurious experience. It comes in a rich dark blue color due to the thicker 13-mm pile carpet.

Buick’s eConnect infotainment systems are now available in a standard version. It features a new UI design, connected navigation and 3D graphics. It also features a vehicle monitoring system and an air quality display. Last but not least, depending on the trim level, the GL8 Avenir gets a wide range of electronic safety and assist systems, and also supports vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity features.

The new powertrain is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine coupled to a nine speed automatic gearbox. This setup is powered by a 48 volt electric motor, 48 volt battery and a power management unit. The smart system Buick claims, allows braking energy recovery and electric boost and is up to six times more efficient than its predecessor.

The updated 2022 GL8 Avenir, which is already available in China, is available with a choice of three exterior colors. It is priced at RMB 463900 to RMB 533900 (or $62,572 to $82,428 depending on current exchange rates). The luxury minivan can be ordered only in the People’s Republic.
