Cadillac Escavan Rendering Imagines An Unofficial Luxury Minivan

It would give Buick GL8 Avenir a lot of company.

Cadillac worked hard to increase its product line, adding three crossovers in the past few years. One model is still missing from the lineup: a minivan. Minivans and luxury might not seem like the right combination, but General Motors offers the Buick GL8 Avant in China. Unofficial rendering by wb.artist20 of Instagram shows what a Cadillac minivan could look like.

This wild rendering is called the Cadillac Escavan and uses the new 2021 Escalade as its base. It looks much taller than you would expect from a minivan. The artist altered the front clip to create the proper sloped hood that modern minivans sport. However, they are becoming more like crossovers with each generation. Although the Escalade’s tall front looks great with the overall design of the SUV, the C- and D-pillars on the SUV look a little odd.

Cadillac won’t make the rear door wider than it is, so it was made by an artist. GM used to have a variety of minivan models under its U platform. This platform also supported the Pontiac Aztek. GM still uses that platform under the Buick GL8. Buick’s Avenir version was introduced last year and packed it full of the most recent safety features, high quality materials, entertainment technology, and other technological innovations.

The minivan was the death of the station wagon thirty years ago. Today, the crossover and SUV are trying to do the exact same thing to the minivan. Although the body style is still popular, a revival in sales dominance is unlikely. There are markets that love such vehicles, like China where Mercedes offers V-Class and Lexus LM gives Japanese automaker Lexus a stake in the sales battle.
