These pickups are insanely fast, but one is definitely faster.
Pickup trucks with high horsepower are very popular these days. There are many tuners who will help you if you don’t have the cash. Callaway is the tuning company this time. We are used to seeing modified trucks by Hennessey. The SC602 is a new Chevrolet Silverado, and you probably know what that number represents.
Callaway’s modified truck takes on the RAM TRX, which is the reigning champion in stock pickup pickups. While a stock-versus-modified challenge seems completely stacked against the Ram, the stats for each rig are worth mentioning because it’s not as lopsided as one might think. The Callaway Silverado produces 602 horsepower (449kilowatts), thanks to its 6.2-liter V8. This is due to the supercharger and many other upgrades. However, this is still 100 horsepower (75 kW), less than the Ram’s 702-hp (523 kW) in bone-stock trim. The Chevy has this disadvantage.
Or does it?
The Silverado is a massive 5,820 pound. But, take a seat for the next one. The Ram TRX has a weight test of 7,080 pounds. This is significantly more than Ram’s curb weight of just under 6,400 lbs. So, unless the TRX has been driven by a grizzly bear who recently ate a river full o fish, we have to ask. Is that where all this extra weight is coming from?
It’s enough to even the playing field. The action is very close in both the roll-and-stop drag races. Callaway measures sprint times to 60 mph or 100 mph. Again, it’s surprising close. It is obvious that a company wouldn’t ever upload a video of their product losing. With Callaway as the source of this action it was a foregone conclusion that the tuned Silverado won at least some contests.
Is it the best? The Ram TRX is a physics-defying machine that despite its claimed 3.5-ton vehicle weight.
