This is the best alternative if you don’t have the budget for a BMW 7 Series, or aren’t willing to spend the premium BMW asks for its flagship model. The 5 Series Long Wheelbase will be unveiled at Auto Shanghai. It is located between the regular executive sedan and full-size range topper.
The LWB model will continue to be available only in China. However, it will be extended by 133 millimeters (5.2 inch) in the latest iteration compared to the standard sedan. To give more legroom to passengers seated in the back, the wheelbase will now measure 3,108mm/ 122.3 inches. The standard trim will be joined by the Luxury Line and M Sport models, which offer a few more bells and whistles for those who are willing to pay more. There will also be a plug-in hybrid version that is more economical.
The exterior design will be almost identical to the standard-wheelbase model. To emphasize the larger footprint of the car, the 5 Series LWB will have a horizontal line that extends into the C-pillar and above the taillights. Another unique feature is the so-called “air breathers” that are located behind the front wheel arches.
The BMW Brailliance joint venture in Shenyang, China, has produced the 5 Series LWB. It will be available locally in June. This is just one of 14 new BMWs headed to the People’s Republic of 2017.
Acura will also be at Auto Shanghai to present the TLX-L Prototype, which is expected to go into production later in the year. Mercedes also unveiled the LWB , a midsize premium sedan that caters to the Chinese market, where Audi’s A6 L has been sold for many years.
