It won’t tell you why.
Supply of new cars and trucks has already been constrained and will continue to be so in the future. Some GM dealers will not be able sell the remaining stock because of high demand and parts shortages. According to GM Authority, the automaker had to place a stop-sale or for the 2021 Chevy silverado HD as well as the 2021 GMC Sierra HD.
GM Senior Communications Manager Dan Flores stated to the publication that the company had stopped delivering certain 2021 heavy duty truck models to dealers. Flores stated that the company was investigating a “potential quality problem.” However, Flores didn’t go into detail about the matter, but said that they had no further information.
A GMC representative did inform GM Authority GM had issued the stop-sale orders due to a wire chafing issue. This issue could be a fire hazard. Only certain Sierra HD and Silverado models 2021 Silverado are affected by the order. Production for 2022 is already underway. The Detroit automaker has been severely affected by the shortage of chips, and this has led to the inability to sell the two most popular models.
The news of the stop-sale orders comes on the heels of GM’s announcement that every Chevy Bolt battery unit will be replaced by the company after it discovered a defect that could lead to a fire. GM had earlier this month to stop production at almost all its US assembly plants due to a continuing chip shortage.
GM did not specify when the stop-sale order was sent to dealers or how long it would be in effect. Dealers might not have to wait long to find out if their vehicles are affected by the problem. Dealers don’t want inventory that isn’t selling to customers who are having difficulty finding new cars.
