In the next 90 days, four generations of DeLoreans are going to be unveiled. This will showcase the brand’s history and direction.
The new DeLorean is on the horizon. We’ve seen it teased before, but we now know that it will make its official debut at Pebble Beach later in the year. However, there is more than one DeLorean. The company is relaunching plans to offer more models than the electric gullwing coupe. We’ll be seeing four new generations of DeLoreans in the next three to six months to give you a taste of what’s ahead.
This news is directly from DeLoreanCEO Joost De Vries. Jo Borras was open to sharing his vision of the brand’s future when he spoke with him on the Electrify news podcast. It all starts with a reborn coupe but it doesn’t end there.
“We’re not just launching a sports car. De Vries stated that while we need a sportscar to relaunch our brand, the brand’s ambition is to become a full-line manufacturer. “We can’t survive on a coupe. I don’t care how cool it might be. Volumes don’t justify the investment, nor the long-term view of what the investment market requires. You will also see other products from me. It may not be an SUV, a sedan or whatever. There will be more volume-oriented products.
It was not specified when these products might be available. The future may be seen with three additional vehicles DeLorean is expected to reveal in the next 90 days. De Vries revealed that the original company planned to produce more products than the DMC-12. Some of the plans had specific designs and some will be realized in one way or another. De Vries stated, “What you’ll see from us in the next few months is the 1990 DeLorean and the 2000 DeLorean and the 2010 DeLorean.” The 2023 DeLorean will be next. This brand has a rich heritage that is not available to the general public. We will be able to show you more than a coupe. It’s now up to us to educate and tell the story of what has happened over the past 40 years. Here are 40 years of history condensed into 90 days.
It is not clear whether these vehicles will be variations of the original DMC-12, or completely new models. De Vries’ interview suggests that we will see more than just variations on a gullwing sportscar. This sets the stage for the public to believe that DeLorean is not just one car. The next few months will be interesting for DeLorean enthusiasts and motoring fans in general. The culmination of the event should be August 18, when the first DeLorean vehicle for over 40 years will finally be revealed.
