The 2.0-liter direct injection TSI petrol engine will power the new Volkswagen Golf R. It produces more horsepower than its predecessor. It is not only more powerful but also more efficient.

The new Golf R is a replacement for the Golf R32 with its 3.2-liter six cylinder engine. It exceeds all performance expectations. The new Golf R’s 266 horsepower engine is 8% more powerful than the old model. It also has a 4.5% torque boost to 350 Nm. The time from 0 to 100 km/h is 5.7 seconds when using a manual transmission instead of 6.5 seconds for the R32. The DSG gearbox reduces the time to 5.5 seconds. Top speed is set at an electronically-limited 250 km/h.

The fuel rating is also a nice feature. The DSG car consumes 8.5 liters per 100km, which is close to 28 mpg. This is an improvement over the previous 10.7l/100km (26.2mpg). The CO2 emissions are now 199 g/km, down 22% The Golf R, like the R32 is an all-wheel-drive model. The new all-wheel differential doesn’t require a “difference between the front axle speeds and the rear axle speeds”.
