Hear that angry V8 roar.
American cars are known for their powerful V8 engines and high outputs. However, US laws limit them to a safe speed. Americans don’t know how to fly down the highway at triple-digit speeds. Those who do know are likely walking more than ever before. However, the German Autobahn does provide this opportunity.
AutoTopNL’s new YouTube video pairs the German road and an American car, the 2021 Dodge Challenger S/T Pack 392. Under the large two-door cruiser’s Great Plains-sized hood is a naturally aspirated, 6.4-liter V8 motor. Although the engine is powerful at 485 horsepower (361 Kilowatts) as well as 489 pound-feet (664 Newton meters) of torque, the engine’s most notable feature is its exhaust note. It roars through the cabin when it accelerates to speeds exceeding 124 miles an hour (200 km per hour).
The Challenger can reach 166 mph (268 km/h), which is quite fast, but far slower than the model’s top speed of 177 mph (285 kph). The powerful engine can propel the coupe to 62mph (100 km/h) in just 4.6 seconds. Although the Dodge is able to accelerate on the Autobahn without any problems, the ride is quite bumpy in comparison to other makes and models seen in high-speed Autobahn videos.
Volvo has imposed a 112-mph speed limit on its new vehicles. This makes sense considering that there are very few places around the world that permit driving at these speeds. However, it’s good to have the option to drive as fast as possible when given the chance. The majority of American states have a speed limit of 70 mph on their highways. However, some rural ones allow speeds up to 75, 80 or 85 mph. But that’s still less then half the Challenger’s top speed. You’ll need to either take your Challenger to Germany or go to the track to truly experience it.
