Dodge Durango Hellcat Outdoes Chevy Corvette C8 in a Drag Race

Not only is weight important, but so are superchargers or AWD traction.

Two V8 motors of the same displacement, 6.2-liters each – that’s what you have in this drag racing story. They are completely different cars. The one is a mid-engine sports car, which has been admired by both American car buyers and enthusiasts alike. It features a naturally aspirated engine and a quick gearbox. However, the contender is a three-row SUV, which weighs nearly twice as much as the sports coupe.

This is the discussion about Chevy Corvette C8 The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Hennessey Performance hosts a drag race where they meet up.

The Durango is light, despite its weight disadvantage. The Durango has an all-wheel drivetrain. Its 6.2L Hellcat V8 produces 710 horsepower (529 Kilowatts) as well as 645 pound-feet (875 Newton-meters). These numbers are far more than what the rear-driven Corvette can produce.

The huge power gap and the weight advantage of ‘Vette did the power gap outweigh the weight advantage? It sure did. You can see how Durango was able anchor itself to the road at line thanks to its all-paw launch.

The straight-line race was not measured in terms distance but the Corvette did catch up to the SUV at around 130 to 125 mph (209 km/h). This is not surprising, as we have seen the Durango SRT Hellcat take out a Mustang Shelby GT500 GT500 at the starting line, only for the Shelby to catch up with them midway through the sprint.

Hennessey Performance may be ending the Durango SRT Hellcat race. The Texas tuner will give this SUV the HPE1000 performance upgrade. This will be the first time for this vehicle. We’ll see the family-hauler take the lead when that happens – regardless of whether it is against the Shelby or Corvette.
