It’s not easy to avoid electrification, it seems.
Although the ’60s and the ’70s were considered to be the golden age muscle cars we all know that this particular segment of automobiles is still very much alive in America. There are still some muscle cars that you can purchase, but their numbers have declined due to technological advances, decreasing fuel prices, and the shift away from fossil fuels.
However, the last bit is more difficult. The United States is now on the final stretch to electrification. Some states, like California, have already pledged to ban new internal combustion engine-powered cars by 2035.
What does Dodge, one of the few remaining automakers producing pure American muscle cars, think about the future of electrification?
“Everybody knows that electrification is coming. We’ll reinvent Dodge’s muscle car. While I am excited about the future, everyone is still enjoying “the bachelor party”. “This is the last hurrah,” Matt McAlear, chief of Dodge sales operations, said in an interview with Muscle cars and Trucks.
The Dodge Challenger , Charger , and Dodge Challenger are nearly inseparable with Hemi V8 engines. This makes them attractive to potential customers. Although not explicitly stated, this statement indicates that the automaker is moving to electrified powertrains.
This is in line with previous reports on Dodge and electrification. It makes perfect sense. These are the cars that will be selling in the future and that’s why the market is heading there.
Simply stated, if America’s most-sold vehicle has gone electric why should other cars follow suit? McAlear is positive about the future Dodge muscle cars and tells MC&T “The replacements will be so much better.”
