The Humvee continues to live. Well, sort of.
General Motors might be reviving the Hummer nameplate, as an electric SUV/truck under the GMC branding, but elsewhere in this world, the OG Humvee continues to live on. It’s kind of. Dongfeng collaborated with AM General in the adaptation of the Humvee to the Chinese military. The latest iteration marries the American brute with the Lamborghini. It is called the Dongfeng Fearless M50 and it looks great.
Inside, the Humvee’s bones can be clearly seen with a large center console that separates the two seats. The interior is sparse, with only a few silver trim pieces breaking up the black plastic, metal and leather. The interior is simple and has the most basic controls. They are located just above the manual shifter, which is the only available gearbox. It is paired with a turbodiesel engine of 4.0-liter capacity that produces 197 horsepower (147kilowatts) as well as 442 pound-feet (642 Newton-meters).
According to the automaker the truck can withstand water depths of up to 47.2 inches. The Fearless M50 will cost in China Y=668,000 (or $103,000 today at current exchange rates). This will not be available in the US, so we will have to live with models such as the Jeep Gladiator and the Ford F-150 Raptor. Dongfeng will offer different Fearless M50 models before the M20 is introduced.
