Most likely, a reveal won’t occur until 2022.
Long-rumored Ferrari SUVs became reality in 2017, when Sergio Marchionne, then-CEO, confirmed that the carmaker was serious about making such a model. Ferrari teased it less than a year later with an official name, Purosangue. Although prototypes have been captured and tested, it may be another year before official unveiling. New renderings show the rear-end design in progress.
After Marchionne stated Ferrari was serious in developing an SUV, Motor1.com developed a front three quarter rendering. The rear is shown in today’s renderings. Recent spy photos show that the SUV has a wagon-like appearance, with a sloped roof and liftgate. Although the photos were taken at a distance, renderings give a better idea of the vehicle. The most striking feature is the curving rear quarter-fender formed by the body creases that run from the front wheel wells.
The quad, round taillights are a Ferrari design classic. They sit below a subtle liftgate lip which looks like it would be a spoiler for a regular two door model. There is a lot below that sheet metal which separates the lighting elements and quad-exhaust tailpipes. The red diffuser divides them into pairs and the black plastic cladding gives Purosangue that high-riding look to attract crossover customers.
It’s been rumored for years that such a model would be made, but it doesn’t feel real until Ferrari officially makes it so. It is encouraging that has cancelled the GTC4Lusso in order to make space in the lineup. The Purosangue will ride on Ferrari’s Front Mid Engine Architecture. It also features an innovative suspension and a hybrid powertrain. The possibility that a powerful V12 will be available before stricter regulations make it a rare relic is what we are most excited about. It is expected to arrive in time for the 2023 model-year.
