First 2022 Acura NSX Type S Gets $1.1 Million At An Auction

This sticker is six times larger than the original, and all for a good cause.

There were 349 cars left. The Type S was the Acura NSX’s final song and managed to attract a large amount of interest at Mecum’s Daytime Auction in Monterey. Why? The reason? Because the first example sold for $1 million. It’s not only the first Type S to ever be sold outside Japan but also one of only 350 examples remaining for the electrified supercar.

The car is rarer than you might think, as only 300 NSX Type S examples have made it to the United States. The car’s owner can choose the specifications of the vehicle. This means that it doesn’t have to be painted in Gotham Gray Matte Metallic, which is only 70 examples.

VIN #001 will be bundled with the optional Lightweight package, which adds carbon ceramic brakes, high-gloss carbon fiber engine covers, and more carbon inside. These upgrades reduce weight by almost 58 pounds (26 kg) and add $13,000 to the base price of $169,500. Rick Hendrick is the owner of Hendrick Motorsports, and founder of Hendrick Automotive Group.

He paid approximately six times the cost of the 2022 Acura Type S with Lightweight Package ($182,500). All proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations including the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), which supports science, technology engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) youth education in the U.S.

The 2017 NXX VIN #001 was sold in an auction to benefit charity in January 2016. This auction was held through Barrett-Jackson. Rick Hendrick purchased the original NSX second-generation car for $1.2million. All proceeds went to Camp Southern Ground and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
