Fisker Ocean Makes LA debut with $37,499 price and a bizarre rotating screen

Base model has 250 mile range; top trim has 350.

Fisker has released the first teaser of its Ocean electric crossover for 2019, promising a price under $40,000 and a range of over 300 miles (483 km). We finally get our first glimpse at the production-ready Fisker Ocean crossover after two years. Yesterday, it debuted at the LA Auto Show along with a set of specifications.

The base Fisker Ocean Sports is the starting point. That model boasts a single lithium-ion-phosphate battery with a front-axle-mounted electric motor, giving it 250 miles (402 km) of range. The horsepower is a solid 275 (205 Kilowatts), and the time it takes to travel 60 miles an hour takes 6.9 seconds. There are many other standard features, including automatic emergency brake, a panoramic moonroof “BigSky”, and a huge 17.1-inch vertical touchscreen.

Next-up Fisker Ocean Ultra is powered by a Hyper Range CATL lithium battery and two electric motors. It delivers 340 miles (547km) of range and 540 horsepower (403 kW). This model can reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The base Sport model features all the same safety options, but the Sport model also has additional safety options such as a 360-degree parking cam, rear automatic emergency brake, lane-keep assistance, traffic-sign recognition, and lane-keep assist.

The Ocean Extreme has the same battery pack as the Ultra model and two electric motors. However, it offers 350 miles (plus 563 km) with 550 horsepower (410 kW). The Ocean Extreme features new 22-inch wheels, heated front and back seats, and a 17.1 inch revolving display. One touch can change the screen’s vertical orientation to a more traditional horizontal layout.

“In our car we have a touchscreen, and on the push of one button it changes from portrait to landscape mode,” CEO Henrik Fisker stated in yesterday’s livestream. It just rotates. This is a very cool feature.

Fisker also calls the SolarSky roof part of the Extreme package. Roof-mounted solar panels – which are only available in the Extreme trim and the top One trim – can provide at least 1,500 miles (2.414 km) more range per year, assuming the system operates at 5.4-kilowatts per square meter.

The Fisker Ocean One is the most expensive model in the range. It is basically an Extreme model, but with some aesthetic enhancements. The cabin’s door sills are decorated with the unique “One” digital signature motif. Buyers can also choose a Big Sur Blue paint job with metallic matte finish.

The base Sport model of the Fisker Ocean costs $37,499, while the Extreme and One models cost $68,999. This is before savings from federal and state incentives. A $250 deposit is required to reserve a Fisker Ocean. Production will begin exactly one year after yesterday, on November 17, 2022.
