Ford Bronco Sport rolls downhill on to roof, drives away after rescue

“Built Ford Tough” isn’t just a marketing slogan.

While browsing my Facebook page over the weekend, I saw an unusual image: a Ford Bronco Sport upside down on its roof at a bottom of a hill in darkness. The headlights of the vehicle were still on and, as I could see from the grainy photo it appeared that the passenger cell was intact. Thomas Breneiser III posted the message in the Rio Rancho Off-Road Group. Breneiser, the vehicle’s owner, published the plea with the image.

These coordinates refer to off-road trails in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Breneiser was apparently having trouble navigating the trails on Saturday night in his Bronco Sports Outer Banks model. Breneiser doesn’t give any details but it appears that he was able to roll down a hill of 20-30 feet and come to a halt upside down. We are glad to hear that he and his passengers are safe. The Bronco Sport was still on its roof, despite their escape.

Rio Rancho’s off-roading community is a great group of friends. Breneiser was offered help by many and they jumped into action. They had already organized themselves by noon Sunday and were on the scene with enough manpower and machinery to rescue Breneiser’s Bronco Sports. Thanks to Steven C. Lesher, Rio Rancho Off-Road Facebook Group Member, we have these photos as well as video of the vehicle rescue.

Scott Parker, another member of the group, wrote this report following the rescue of Bronco Sport.

Amazingly, the Bronco Sports was able drive itself out of the trails. Scott Parker explains how it all started.

The Rio Rancho off-roading group made Saturday’s tragedy look like a tragedy. We have not been able to get any information from Breneiser (he is probably very busy). However, we hope that insurance will cover the damage so that he can go back to offroading with all his new friends.
