This could be the last nail in the coffin.
Talks of a V8 engine under the hood of the Ford Bronco circulated even before this year’s birth. However, despite fan demand, speculations about a V8 engine under the hood of the Ford Bronco were based more on wishful thinking than factual information.
Interviews can be arranged from Muscle Cars & Trucks This could be the last nail in the Bronco V8 coffin. According to Ford Jeff Seaman, Global Program Manager, and Eric Loefller (Bronsco Chief Engineer) have informed us that a V8-powered Bronco is unlikely to come to fruition. There are good reasons. Loefller says that emissions regulations are the main issue.
“We must manage the CO2 implications for the product. It’s all shadow area (footprint) now that the federal requirements are. In his interview with Muscle cars & Trucks, Loefler stated that the small off-road vehicle has a very high target in terms of CO2 emissions.
He said that the Bronco’s Coyote can be used as a Coyote . He stated that customers’ primary concerns are horsepower, torque and fuel economy. This can all be achieved with the Bronco’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6.
Loefller said that these primary considerations are covered by the V6 so it makes no sense to offer a V8 or pay emissions fines. Seaman is confident that the EcoBoost V6 will satisfy its future owners. They won’t even be asking for more.
A Bronco V8 is still possible, due to the many aftermarket companies in America. However, that could be a problem because of the Bronco’s over-the air updates.
