It will most likely be the successor to the Transit Connect.
Ford revealed in July 2020 that plans were to begin production in 2021. The new model will be assembled at the Hermosillo, Mexico plant. The exact model’s identity was not known at the time. However, it appears that Ford may be planning Mexican production of three models. At least one of these cars will be new.
Automotive News reports that the manufacturer reached out to its suppliers for details about the three cars being assembled in Hermosillo. The Bronco Sport is the first official vehicle. It will be joined by the Maverick small truck. According to reports, the third vehicle will be a successor for the Transit Connect small van that is America’s best-selling.
Although a Ford spokesperson didn’t confirm this information, Automotive News states that the new van currently sports the V758 internal designation. It will be produced in Mexico in 2023. Ford estimated that Ford would produce approximately 40,000 vehicles per year, but this is not yet official.
The van will also share the same C2 vehicle architecture as the Ford Escape, Bronco Sports, and the forthcoming Maverick truck. This is an interesting bit of information. Ford will be assembling three C2-based vehicles in Hermosillo from 2023. Ford currently imports the Transit Connect from Spain.
It is also sold in Europe, where it has recently received a rugged Active edition. The Transit Connect is mainly sold on the Old continent with a diesel engine. It was even considered for the US market but was canceled.
