Ford Escape/Kuga Facelift Revealed After First Spy Photos

Although it’s only available in Vignale trim for Europe, it looks great.

We shared earlier this month an unofficial rendering the refreshed Ford Escape. The crossover is also known as the Kuga in Europe. We spied it several days later to see more details. These renderings were created by Kolesa.ru, our friends.

The spy photos show that the Escape’s front end will be redesigned in order to accommodate a larger radiator grille and more prominent air openings. The radiator grille is flanked by sleeker, narrower headlights on each side. These are most likely to be equipped with LED technology that allows for cornering and automatic high-beam functions. The bumper has a new lower grille that features a trapezoidal design and an internal pattern. It is surrounded by two new intakes that channel fresh air to the engine, brakes, and surrounding areas.

The back is where things are more controlled. Although there are some minor tweaks, the overall design remains the same. Clear lenses should be used for the taillights. The lower bumper will likely receive a revised diffuser with integrated chrome pipes. This rendering shows the Kuga Vignale, the highest-end model for Europe. The US doesn’t currently have one.

We don’t anticipate any changes in the undercarriage on either side of the big pond, despite the fact that they are both markets. North American customers can choose between a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit or a turbocharged four-cylinder unit. There are also two hybrids available, including a PHEV with a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle ICE. There is also a 2.0-liter EcoBlue Diesel in Europe. All versions can be purchased with either a standard or optional eight speed transmission.
