Ford is creating what for its truck family.
Ford explained to the introduction of the 2021 F150 . This was because it was what customers wanted. For example, the layout of this new truck allows for cutting lumber or measuring. The automaker may be moving on to something more sophisticated.
According to MuscleCarsAndTrucks a recent United States Patent and Trademark Office filing from Ford reveals that the company may be developing a more advanced tailgate design for the F-150. Ford Flexbed is described as an “organizational scheme for cargo area vehicles”, which suggests that Ford may be attempting to compete with the MultiPro tailgates from Ram and GMC.
Although the filing does not reveal much, we do know that it was filed on February 17. It’s not possible to see any drawings or sketches and it’s hard to determine what is behind the Flexbed name. Although the possibility of a new tailgate seems plausible, our source suggests that there may be another way to answer the question about what the Flexbed is.
MCAT suggests that the filing may hint at a new cargo storage method. It could be a competitor to Ram Box’s cargo storage system that uses lockable storage containers integrated into the cargo bed of trucks to store tools and equipment.
We can only speculate at this stage. We don’t like speculations so we will leave it up to you to guess what kind of feature this trademark refers to. We are most likely talking about a new tailgate design. A report from August last years suggested that Ford may soon be offering a MultiPro competitor.
