Although it is actually called Mondeo, it is essentially the same car.
Ford put an end to the Fusion’s production in North America a month ago. This was a decision that was made a few years back. The Mondeo is still available after a extensive facelift starting in 2019. It will also be sold in China for at most another model year.
The Chinese version of this car is also known as the Mondeo, but it has a more modern exterior look than the Fusion. The Euro-spec Mondeo has a more refined exterior with ST-Line or Vignale appearance packages in both the sedan and wagon.
However, the interior of the Chinese Mondeo is very different. The new 12.8-inch vertical display is paired with an adapted version of Ford’s SYNC4 infotainment software. The manufacturer revealed that the system was called the SYNC+ in People’s Republic. It is powered by Baidu’s artificial Intelligence technology. It includes over-the-air updates as well as a NXP i.MX8 multi-core vehicle processor.
The Chinese Mondeo will be available with two powertrain options for the 2020 model year. Both are powered by gasoline and come with turbochargers. The more powerful model produces 200 horsepower (149kilowatts), while the smaller entry-level model produces 180 hp (134kW). The engines come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox that includes a rotary selector.
The local market prices start at 192 800 Chinese Yuans. This is approximately $28,176. There are four trim levels, four exterior colors and many optional features. The European Mondeo starts at EUR28,190 (German price), which is approximately $33,237 at current exchange rates.
