David or Goliath?
The Ford Maverick small truck is very compact. It is well below F150 in our Blue Oval truck family. This particular comparison really highlights the difference in size. It’s almost adorable how small the Maverick is next to F-150. But cute doesn’t win drag races. Power does.
The F-150 is most definitely powered. The new TFLtruck video showcases a PowerBoost Hybrid model in stripped down XL trim. However, it does not change the 430 horsepower (321 kilowatts), which is produced by the truck’s twin-turbocharged electric-enhanced V6. This is a powerful powertrain that can go anywhere, while the Maverick’s 2.5 liter four-cylinder hybrid engine with electric-enhanced twin-turbocharged V6 produces just 191 horsepower (142 kW) to the front wheels. The Maverick seems to have little chance in this matchup. However, it does have one advantage over its bigger brother. It is lighter… by over 2,000 pounds.
Before the Maverick races F-150, it must defeat a new Bronco with its own twin-turbocharged v6. The Maverick manages to overcome the power disadvantage. The off-roader is heavy and not designed for drag racing on pavements. Although the Maverick did not win, it was victorious.
It won. We’re certain it would win, and we were pretty sure that it would. Everybody wants to see the largest and smallest Ford pickups in drag racing, even if each one is wearing the same color of blue. It is almost comical to see the size differences between them. And when the race begins, it is even more shocking to see the power difference. Although the F-150 is a bit heavier than the Maverick, it has more than twice the power. The F-150 wins with the accelerators in place.
The trucks used only electric power for the second race, but neither truck has an electric-only mode. Race is not applicable here. Neither driver could push the throttle with enough force to engage the gasoline engine. This is the result of the Maverick winning the drag race, possibly the most slow we have ever seen. We aren’t certain if this is a win in this context.
The new Ford Ranger will join the two trucks and will be available for purchase in 2022.
