In Europe, the Mustang was particularly popular in 2020. In Hungary, sales of the Mustang increased by 68.8 per cent compared to 2019. The number of sales in Hungary was up 68.8 percent compared to 2019.
Ford shipped 61,090 Mustangs in the US, a decrease of 15.7 percent over the previous year. It was particularly popular in Texas, where it sold 8,600 units. California was second with 6,200 vehicles and Florida third with 5,864 units.
Ford had good reasons to celebrate Mustang’s global market share, but actual sales are falling. The Blue Oval sold 102,090 pony cars worldwide in 2019, which was almost 27 percent more than 2020. In 2018, the company shipped 113,066 units of the pony car, almost 40 percent more than in 2020.
In the future, Ford shipped 17,274 Mustangs in the first quarter 2021. This was a drop of 4.4 percent compared to the same period last. Comparatively, Dodge sold 15,096 Challengers in Q1 which was a 24% increase. With 7,089 cars, the Camaro was the least popular of the Big Three’s sports coupes. This is a drop of 1.3 per cent.
