It is possible that the Ranger Raptor R will borrow parts from Bronco DR offroad racer.
Take a big pinch of salt and cross your fingers because a rumor out of Australia’s Autos Guide states that Ford is developing a Ranger Raptor with an V8 engine. The company seems to be being pushed by two executives at the automaker to make the performance pickup.
“There’s a lot of that Bronco-DR that’s standard Bronco. The underpinnings for the standard Bronco as well as the Ranger that we’re in the process to release is the same architecture,” Trevor Worthington (Ford’s vice president of global operation and programs), told Cars guide.
Ford Performance Motorsports Global Director Mark Rushbrook hinted at the possibility for a Ranger Raptor, as well. He indicated that there would be “a lot of transfer” between the Bronco D and Ranger platforms.
“But it has to be practical and profitable for the business. It would be a great idea to do that. Rushbrook said that there are no plans right now, but they want to do so.
The Bronco-only version of the SUV is for customers who plan to race off-road. A 5.0-liter V8 produces at least 400 horsepower (298kilowatts). A 10-speed automatic transmission transfers the power. The suspension features Muiltimatic’s DSSV Dampers, with 80-millimeter bodies in billet aluminum and lower control arms made of billet aluminum.
Ford intends to produce 50 Bronco DR’s in an initial production run. The Bronco DR will be available for purchase by the end of 2022. The pricing is in the middle of $200,000 to $250,000 range.
If the rumored Ranger R is true, it raises the question as to whether Ford will offer the pickup in the United States. Although there is a market for another pickup, decision-makers may be concerned about the model taking sales away from the F150 Raptor.
The debut of the Ranger Raptor standard ( rendering over) is February 2022 . It could be a twin-turbo V6. It could be either the 330-horsepower (246 kilowatt), 2.7-liter unit of the Bronco, or the 400-hp (298 kW) 3.0-liter unit of the Explorer ST. The performance pickup is expected to be available in America unlike the previous version.
