It seems more likely that Thailand will reveal its secrets next month.
Ford has released a new short teaser video of the upcoming Ranger Raptor pickup through its division in Thailand. Unfortunately, the clip, posted on Facebook, gives us no new details about the truck and only confirms it will debut this year.
The fact that the video is from the Thai subsidiary Blue oval fuels rumors about an upcoming debut in February. It was previously reported that Ford would unveil the Bangkok performance pickup on February 7. This seems to be even more probable.
Ford has released a teaser video showing the Ranger Raptor on various roads. Ford promises that the automaker will make it “ready for speed”, ready to handle water, ready to handle sand, ready to tackle hills, ready to take on mud and ready for jumps”. It is ready for anything.
The powertrain for the pickup, which will be joining the F-150 Raptor’s F-150 Raptor remains unknown at the moment. However, we are betting on the 2.7-liter V6 biturbo motor of the manufacturer. It’s available for the F-150 where it produces 325 horsepower (242 Kilowatts) & 400 pound-feet (542 Newton-meters). The smaller truck will have similar numbers. It will likely be mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels.
The larger 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine is still an option. However, the pickup’s 450 horsepower (335 kW) as well as 510 lbft (691 Nm), seem a little too powerful for such a small vehicle. Some reports suggest that the Range Raptor might get a diesel engine to serve certain markets. This would likely be a modified version of the five-cylinder 3.2-liter unit made available in Europe. It will be used in conjunction with the 10-speed auto.
Initial availability of the performance pickup is in Asia Pacific, but it will soon be available on the U.S. markets.
