Seagulls give TED Talks on Charging Stations
As we move through the last week of 2021 it is a good idea to look back at something that occurred just before Christmas. The weirdness in this case comes from Ford via social media, specifically Twitter. We all know about internet memes and how hilarious they can communicate. We don’t often see them from automakers.
This is exactly what Ford’s Twitter account did on December 21st, when it sent out nine memes supporting electric cars. We mean to support EVs by taking common arguments against them and ridiculing them in some way. Some are clever, like the smiling horse who points out that amateur in-car Karaoke can reach a completely new level without an engine sound.
It’s countered by several cringeworthy attempts to undermine valid arguments such as range anxiety. Ford assumes that people will only drive locally to school and work for the rest of their lives.
There are also EV tweets that are just plain bizarre, such as the one where the cat wears sunglasses and doesn’t care about getting to work despite not plugging in his car the night before.
This tweet is the second in a series of tweets mocking people who forgot to plug their EV in the night before. Yeah, that’s awkward.
Ford wants to be a leader in the EV market. The Mustang Mach-E is proving to be a success. With the new F-150 Lightning getting almost 200,000 reservations Ford is making every effort to increase production. We are not sure if this pro-EV meme wave is a precursor for a new PR campaign, but we reached Ford to get more information.
We aren’t convinced that the tweets will convince anyone to go all-electric if they haven’t already planned to.
