We will miss the V8 roar.
Mercedes-AMG could be criticized for removing the sweet-sounding V8 from the C63. But, Affalterbach must comply with stricter emission regulations. The V8 is going to be around for at least the beginning of the next decade. However, you will need to upgrade to larger and more expensive models in order to get the 4.0-liter unit.
The C63 will use the M139 2.0-liter engine from the smaller “45” models but with some major modifications. The four-pot will be placed longitudinally and will feature an identical electric turbocharger to the AMG One hypercar. The combustion engine will produce 442 horsepower (330kilowatts) and this is before the electric bits.
What does it sound like? This video will answer your burning question.
The hybridized Mercedes-AMG C63S E Performance has been seen at the Nurburgring. It is likely to be known as the Mercedes-AMG C63S E Performance. Although the prototypes are fast, some may argue that the sound quality is not up to par with the V8’s.
To survive in the downsizing age, the C63 must adapt. An electric motor is needed to replace four of the cylinders. The electric motor, mounted in the rear of the car, is capable of producing 201 hp (135 kW) and 236 Lb-ft (312 Nm) in 10-second bursts. It also produces a steady output of at least 95 hp (7 kW). The starter-alternator, which is belt-driven and produces 14 horsepower, can also be used to start the combustion engine. It is also responsible for ensuring that the AC and lights function properly when the high-voltage batteries are low.
The C63’s weight will be an issue, especially when you consider the 6.1-kWh lithium battery pack and the two-speed electric motor transmission. According to AMG, the next C63 will be an electric hybrid that “surpasses comparable vehicles with V8 engines without hybrid drives”. The PHEV setup should have 643 hp for a short period, and well over 500 hp throughout the day.
The C63 also features an all-wheel drive system and an electric vehicle mode. We are hearing that the sprint from 62 mph to 100 km/h will take just three and a quarter seconds. This is a remarkable performance for a car with only four-cylinder engines.
Both body styles will see the camouflage removed in 2022. The C63 will be complemented by the new electrified AMG GT63 S E Performance and, hopefully, the production-ready AMG One.
