Many of the parts had to be made in-house by the tuner.
The Polaris Slingshot looks bold and three-wheeled. Although it’s bold, the Gas Monkey Garage builders had the chance to make the model their own. Richard Rawlings, his crew, and others delivered. The off-road three-wheeler is very high-riding and required extensive modifications to accommodate the new suspension and larger tires.
Gas Monkey Garage was required to manufacture many of the Slingshot’s new parts in-house. This included vital suspension components like the control arms, tie rod ends and rear swing arm. This proved to be the most challenging part to construct. It was difficult to adjust the rear suspension geometry of the Slingshot due to its new ride height. To fit the suspension through the new ride height, the tuner had to switch to Polaris.
A new front bumper is available for the Slingshot. This removes most of the lighting and ventilation you would normally find on a stock model. The Slingshot has a new front bumper that features a skid plate and more ground clearance. Gas Monkey Garage installed custom rock sliders to attach to the roll cage. A custom roof rack is installed and KC offroad lights are mounted up top. The stock wheels are covered by 35-inch Nitto tires. However, they come with a splash of orange to add some contrast.
The car’s exterior look has been updated with orange vinyl accents and desert tan paint. It looks ready for any terrain. Although the initial drawing was made before the crew began work, not all ideas were able to be translated into paper. Although there were plans to install a rear-mounted spare, the proportions weren’t right. It’s a great place to put the jerrycans.
