Genesis X Concept: First Look: A Coupe-Shaped Look into The Future

This two-door, all-electric coupe is a preview of the future Korean luxury brand. We are the first to see it.

Genesis has been one of those rare automotive shine-ups. It evolved from a value-priced vehicle to luxury in just three years. Its latest project shows that this momentum will continue in the near future. We were able to see the all-electric Genesis X concept for the first time in the world. This previews the brand’s future design and philosophy.

Genesis pulled the covers off the car at a private event held in California. California is known for its EV-friendliness and a strong, well-designed automobile culture. Genesis uses a two door GT design, rather than a more economically viable SUV or crossover, which is unusual. The company wants to keep driving excitement and performance even as zero-emission powertrains are adopted in greater numbers around the world.

Genesis Grace

The coupe-shaped X also helps Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design language. Genesis’ shield grille features a mesh design that the company calls G-Matrix. Although the hood wraps over the fenders to create a seamless, clamshell appearance it still maintains the full-length, three-dimensional bodyside crease running from the tail to the hood. The massive flared fenders, which could have been a vintage Audi rally car, give the Genesis X a sporty look that is very appropriate for a sports car.

The X’s so-called Two Lines design elements, Genesis, extend beyond the head-and taillights. One of the most striking equals-signs is a sleek, illuminated front bumper trim. It appears to be a continuation and interruption to the headlight. Although the accent is reminiscent of an internal-combustion car’s front vents, an EV doesn’t require additional cooling. A vent can be transformed into a lighting signature, which is a smart way to update the motif for the modern age.

The delicate side-view mirrors have two lines detailing. They are actually mounting points for modern cameras. A unique upkick is found in the beltline trim at the C-pillar. It features a pair of slashes which separate a small triangular quarter from the rest. These side windows have more to offer than just a little Peugeot 504/ or Mercedes CL. They are two beautiful machines that you can draw inspiration from. The Two Lines accents make everything uniquely Genesis.

The X concept is viewed from the rear and features attractive, rhomboid rear taillights that wrap around fat rear haunches. There’s also a lower diffuser with two accents at the extreme right and left, which recalls the shape of front grille. The center-lock (!) is also on display. The center-lock (!) is also on. This clever detail ties the Genesis X to its other offerings. It’s difficult to fault the beautiful bodywork of the Genesis X from stem to stern.

Go In for a Closer Look

The vehicle we were able to spend time in was only an exterior styling mockup without interior. However, images of the interior were released by the company at the unveil event. The coupe’s driver’s quarters are swoopy with a center stack binnacle, and a high console that separates the front-seat passengers. This distinction is highlighted by Genesis’s use of different colors – Scotch Brown to the aeronaut, and Ocean Blue Green to the copilot. The seats are upholstered with recycled leathers, but they can also be woven from scraps.

Two-spoke steering wheels are covered in an airbag with Genesis-signature lacing around the center badge. The current Genesis products’ cylindrical infotainment controller with matching shifter are gone. Instead, a circular gear selector is available that incorporates a drive mode switch. The driver’s cockpit area has a sleek display that manages climate and infotainment controls. This replaces the high-mounted, tablet-style touchscreens found in the G80, GV70 and GV80. Thanks to the use of accent lighting, the door armrests appear to “float” above panel. The bridge-style center console has open storage below.

What’s Next?

Genesis is very clear on one thing: the X concept may not be a preview of a production model. Instead, it will inform the design of future vehicles. Two EVs are in the works by the company. One will be based on an existing model ( most likely the GV70), and the other will be a custom EV built using Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP architecture. The vehicle will likely take a lot of design inspiration from the Genesis X. It has more Two Lines features than the current models. The interior of the X Concept’s vehicle might be adapted to include a separate infotainment display.

If the company decides that the two-door coupe is a possibility, we will be open to it. The Genesis X is a two-door coupe that features sporty details like four-point racing harnesses and acid green brake calipers. It could be a great alternative to the polestar 1 and provide owners with a superior long-distance driving experience, without sacrificing style, efficiency, performance, or style.
