After 2021, Polestar will be closing its coupe.
The Polestar 1, Volvo’s first EV, was unveiled in 2017. Having spent a lot of time in the car over the years, we can confirm that it is our favorite car. If you are like us and love this car, you will be disappointed to hear that the company has officially ended production.
Polestar announced in a press release, that after a four-year limited run, the plug-in hybrid 1 coupe will be discontinued by the company. The good news? Anyone interested in one of the last build slots can order with the company now.
“We have received overwhelming responses from customers and the press since the 2017 Polestar 1 debut and subsequent deliveries in 2020,” stated Gregor Hembrough (Head of Polestar North America). This hybrid grand tourer boasts 619 horsepower and the longest range of any hybrid vehicle currently on the market. It is also a testament to the technological innovation Polestar has passionately pursued.
The Polestar 1 will be replaced by the mass-market Polestar2 sedan, and later models such as the 3 and 4. The Polestar 1 was the first and only hybrid model from the brand. It featured a turbocharged, supercharged 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors. These motors are capable of 619 horsepower (462 kilowatts), 738 pound-feet (1,200 newton-meters), and offer up to 60 miles (97 km) pure electric range.
The brand will make a version the Precept concept, which was unveiled earlier in 2020. It will be an electric sports car and will influence future models such as the 3. You can still pour one for Polestar 1 until the Precept is realized.
