GM Announces 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV at CES 2022

The price of the compact SUV will be less than $30,000. It is based on the Ultium platform.

Mary Barra, General Motors CEO, stated that the automaker will introduce the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV (and Blazer EV) sometime in 2023. The presentation also featured the highly-anticipated Silverado EV. A few images of the Equinox were included in the presentation. They show a sporty, sleek electric crossover that will be available starting at $30,000.

Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice-president, stated that the Equinox is Chevrolet’s second-highest-selling brand. Chevy will make EVs affordable by offering an affordable EV option within the highest-volume segment of the market.

The GM Ultium EV architecture will be used for both the Chevrolet Blazer EV & Equinox EV. It uses a scalable platform that looks like a skateboard to mount the batteries. The Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EVO will both feature Ultium. GM claims that these vehicles can travel more than 300 miles (with the exception of the Equinox and Blazer), but the smaller Equinox will be able to go between 250 and 300 miles on a single charge.

Chevrolet’s EV-crossovers will compete with the Ford Mustang. This crossover offers 224 miles range at the low end and 314 at the top. Although pricing for the Blazer is not yet confirmed, Equinox’s target starting price of $30,000 will make it one the most affordable long-range EVs available. This supports GM’s claim of making electric cars more affordable to the average person. Chevy confirmed that the Equinox would be available for retail and fleet sales by fall 2023.

Blazer EVs and Equinox EVs in 2024 will complete GM’s EV line-up. This includes the Chevrolet Bolt and BoltEUV as well as future Silverado EVs, GMC Sierra EVs and Hummer EVs, as well the Silverado EVs, Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and Hummer EVs, aswell as the Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq and Celestiq Barra also revealed more electrified plans for the company, including heavy-duty trucks as well as full-size SUVs. These will be available by 2035. GM is in the race to produce a complete lineup of EVs.
