Gordon Murray is the driver for low-speed trials.
The world is bursting with hypercars and supercars these days. We mean that the world is filled with supercars and hypercars, as well as a handful of amazing concepts that promise exceptional performance. A good number of these concepts will never see the light the day. It’s still cool to see the T.50 doing real-world laps at Dunsfold.
The F1 and the T.50 don’t have a jet engine. Murray’s hypercar has an electric fan that spins at 7kmph, sucking it into the pavement. The fan can also be used as a ram-air system to the Cosworth-sourced HTML12 that produces 654 naturally aspirated horsepower with just 4.0-liters displacement. The engine revs at over 12,000 rpm. While we can’t hear it running at full throttle in the video, the engine sounds ferocious even at moderate speeds. It’s also quite impressive to hear the fan whistling.
This clip is the very first driving of the T.50 prototype. It’s easy to understand why things are slow. It’s still a crucial first step towards bringing the car into production, which is scheduled for 2022. The car will only be produced 100 times at an estimated $3 million each. We can’t wait for one of these cars to take full control on a track after watching the video.
