All this abuse and beating was done in one day. Ouch.
The Toyota Hilux pickup truck is among the most durable on the market. This is especially true if you are talking about older models from the ’80s or ’90s. These made the Toyota Tacoma cousin indestructible.
How tough is a Toyota Hilux? WhistlinDiesel wanted to know, so they took a fifth-generation Toyota Hilux up for durability testing. Since the driver is on the right, it seems that the example was imported.
The durability test was designed to take all the abuse and beatings that the Hilux could receive over decades of continuous use. It took place in just one day. The front passenger side gave in easily by slamming on the doors. But the rear took over 1,000 cycles of hard slams and is still alive.
However, this doesn’t mean that there weren’t any damages. The rubber trims and door panels began to fail. The same happened to the tailgate, but it survived with flying colors.
These are only a small part of the iceberg’s edge. WhistlinDiesel put the Hilux through an extreme offroad test, which could have easily damaged its suspension. Worse, a pallet full of cinderblocks was placed on the truck’s bed. This is way more than its payload capacity.
These were minor tests. You can see the rest of the test through the embedded video. These were exhausting tests, which were difficult to see and could have been a nightmare for any car.
Do you believe the Hilux is irreparable? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
