The company offers full cash refunds and store credit.
Harbor Freight jack stand owners should be aware. The retailer issued a voluntary recall in May for some of its Pittsburgh Automotive 3-ton steel jack stands. They also offered other Pittsburgh-branded stands as an alternative. Eric Smidt , the founder of the company, posted a message to apologize to customers.
A small number of replacement Pittsburgh 3-ton jack stand models were affected by a manufacturing defect. Smidt wrote that the defect was not discovered in the initial recall investigation. Harbor Freight has since examined all 3-, 6-, or 12-ton steel stands and found no additional defects. The company offers anyone with these jack stands who has any concerns the chance to return them for a full refund or store credit.
“Your trust is very important to me and I am proud of the progress we have made. It hurts when we have to recall a product,” Smidt wrote in an apology. He also expressed his disappointment and shame at the discovery of the other defect. Harbor Freight’s website lists the affected jack stands and their item numbers. Further information is available in the tweet below.
For 3-, 6-, or 12-ton stands, cash refunds will be available for $24.99, $49.99 and $119.99. If owners opt to receive store credit, the amount will increase to $29.99 and $59.99 respectively. All applicable sales tax will be refunded by the company.
High quality jack stands make it safer to work underneath cars. A faulty jack stand could cause injury or death for anyone using it. Customers who are concerned can return their jack stands at their Harbor Freight location.
