For the Ford Maverick non-hybrid, these official EPA gas mileage figures are available
The Ford Maverick could be considered the first compact pick-up truck for decades. It measures in at just under 200 inches, or 5072 mm. This is the smallest truck that the Blue Oval brigade has produced in decades. Ford made some bold moves with the introduction of it earlier in the year.
The base models are available with hybrid power. Ford targets 40 MPG (5.8 L/100 km) for its battery-assisted model. However, the Environmental Protection Agency is yet to back Ford’s claim. They do however have the official numbers for the EcoBoost version, which is not hybrid.
Here’s a quick recap of the Maverick EcoBoost powertrain numbers. The turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo produces 250 horsepower (186 Kilowatts) as well as 277 pound-feet (376 Newton meters) of torque. There is no manual transmission, only an eight-speed auto. Front-wheel drive is standard, with an optional all-wheel drive for the 2.0 EcoBoost. Only front-wheel drive is available for the hybrid.
What is the Maverick EcoBoost’s government rating? The EPA says it gets 23 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway for the front-wheel-drive version. The agency estimates that the combined mileage of the two-wheel drive Maverick EcoBoost Maverick EcoBoost is 26 MPG. The all-wheel drive is 22 MPG city, 29MPG highway and 25MPG combined.
How do the economy numbers compare to the Ranger, which is the next Ford pickup-up? It’s not surprising that the Maverick is more fuel-efficient, but how much? The two-wheel drive Ranger gets 21 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. It also has a combined rating that is 23 MPG. The four-wheel drive Ranger model is rated at 20 MPG city, 24MPG highway and 22MPG combined. The Maverick offers a 2 to 4-MPG advantage over its larger brother.
Although the actual results may vary, we don’t expect them to be any different from the government ratings. We’ll wait to see how the EPA views the hybrid version. Maverick Hybrid order Scheduling has been placed on hold adata-inline-widget.
