The Type R is the first. The Limited Edition then goes almost a second faster around the track.
Honda has already teased the next-gen Civic Type R. However, the current Civic Type R is still setting records all over the globe. The fastest time for a front wheel-drive production car was just achieved by Honda with the CTR at The Bend Motorsport Park in Australia. The Limited Edition version was then faster around the circuit.
Tony D’Alberto, the driver of both cars, has competed in the Australian GT Championship as well as the Australian Endurance Championship. He starts with the regular Civic Type R, and finishes in 2 minutes and 13.251 seconds at The Bend’s 3.076-mile (4.95 km) International Circuit.
He then switches to the Type R Limited Edition, which has less sound deadening and BBS forged aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubbers. It also features revised suspension damping and recalibrated steering. It is approximately 50 pounds lighter than the standard CTR (22.68 kg).
The Type R Limited Edition is lighter and has stickier tires. This makes it perform better on the track. D’Alberto’s lap time is now 2:12.260. This is 0.99 second faster than the standard CTR version.
D’Alberto complete lap in the Type R Limited Edition. Although we don’t have the speedometer, the track seems to allow for very fast speeds. There are many straight sections as well as many sweeping corners.
During its production, the Civic Type R set many track records for front wheel-drive vehicles. It was able to complete quick laps of the Hungaroring and Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps, Spa-Francorchamps and Magny-Cours. The Limited Edition defeated the Renault Megane RS Trophy -R around Suzuka. The Renault beat Honda’s time at the Nurburgring.
Honda’s teaser-campaign suggests that the new Civic Type R will debut sometime in 2022. It may use a modified version of the current model’s drivetrain.
