Honda Debuting EV Prototype, Plug-In Hybrid At Shanghai Motor Show

A small selection of cars, SUVs and motorcycles will be on display at the automaker.

While auto shows remain on hold, the world continues to fight COVID-19. But not in China. Auto Shanghai 2021 will open its doors to the public from April 21 through April 28. This is when we will see what Honda can offer the largest automotive market in the world. It’s electrifying, spoiler alert.

Unfortunately, this is all we have right now. Honda released an official teaser on 8 April that highlighted two vehicles of interest that will be making a global debut at the show. The first is a plug-in hybrid and the second is a prototype for the company’s first fully electric Honda-brand vehicle in China. Honda Connect, the third-generation safety and driver-assist technology of Honda, will be on display at the automaker’s booth.

The display will feature the current range of electrified Hondas. The brand’s Acura group, which is upscale and designed for high-end customers, will display the RDX as well as the exclusive CDX crossover from China. Honda’s soul and heart will be displayed at the event, with a range of motorcycles that range from the modest CM300 to a magnificent Gold Wing.

Honda has made it clear that their attention is on the automotive side. Although we don’t have any rumors, the new EV prototype is likely to be related to the SUV e-concept, which was displayed last September at 2020 Beijing Auto Show. Honda did not offer any information on the concept in terms of power or range, so it makes sense that Honda’s latest presentation will bring the company closer to a production-ready vehicle.

We will soon have answers to all our questions. The public can access the show on April 21st, but media access opens a few days before that on April 19.
