Honda Previews Future Interior Design Philosophy

Focused on simplicity.

Honda presented the SUVE:Prototype earlier this month at the Auto Shanghai 2021. This was a preview of a future production electric vehicle by the company. Although we didn’t get interior shots, this video gives us a better look at Honda’s future interior design language.

The “simplicity of something” design philosophy is inspired by the human-centered designs of early Honda cars. The automaker is focusing on simplicity and ease of use, which should result in a better user experience. The key element of the design is to maximize cabin space while minimising the space required for electronic and mechanical components.
Johnathan Norman from Honda Interior Design USA comments, “Simplicity requires not only a strong philosophical approach but also a discipline towards the user experience.” Designers working for other brands have shared their admiration for the simplicity and human-centered design of Honda’s old models. We are inspired by the simple, human-centered design of old Hondas.

The brand’s current interior design language won’t be changed much, with the emphasis on thin pillars and a low cowl. This creates a spacious feeling in the cabin and excellent visibility to the outside.

Honda wants interiors that feel emotionally connected to their owners. This is the “something” part. This can be expressed by fun design details like “the careful knurling or charm of material”
