Australian media is reporting the Japan-only Honda S660 will spawn a more powerful international variant.
CarSales had the chance to test drive the S660. A source within Honda informed us that an upgraded version was in development for export. According to a company engineer, the engine bay of the kei car can accommodate a turbocharged, 1.0-liter gasoline engine. Another engineer stated that they could increase the rear axle and tread size by 30mm each on either side, for a total length of 60mm. This would enable the car to have wider wheels and tires to match its higher output.
The 660cc turbo engine in the Japan’s S660 produces 63 bhp (44.7 kW) but the turbo of 1.0-liter capacity is expected to produce more than 127 horsepower (95 kW). It would be paired with a six speed manual gearbox specially designed for this model, which will likely go by the name “S1000”.
The Honda S1000 could be released as soon as next year, if the reports are true.
