Honda, please build it.
The Urban E-V concept that Honda introduced last month in Frankfurt is a great example of a similar design. The IAA showcar was intended to be a small electric vehicle that could be used in cities. However, the new model is a cute two-seater sports car which will hopefully soon hit the assembly lines.
Honda doesn’t give too many details at the moment, but it does mention that the Sports EV Concept has a small size and uses artificial intelligence. This means it could have some autonomous driving technology. We would prefer to do the driving without any assistance from computers, sensors or cameras.
The interior cabin photos are not yet available, but you can expect to see a large touchscreen dominating your dashboard in the same way as the Urban EV concept. As most functions were accessible through the infotainment system, the latter had very few physical controls. An external camera footage screen was also built into the doors of the electric city car. The Sports EV concept also has these cameras, which replace traditional side mirrors.
Although there is no word on a production model, Honda did hint that a new type of sports car might be added to the lineup a few weeks ago. This doesn’t mean that the Tokyo showcar will become a production model. But it does suggest that a small EV coupe with a retro-futuristic design could be approved.
