It should be available before the end of this year.
BMW’s lineup is constantly changing. This means that the automaker introduces new cars and updates existing models. The X5 crossover is one that will be getting a makeover. BMW has begun to make the X5 a better vehicle.
The X5 crossover has been spotted out testing many times over the past year. Our latest spy shots captured the more powerful M60i trim. The engine will get a major overhaul under the hood. BMW will pair the turbocharged 4.4-liter S68 with a 48V mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed gearbox. This setup will produce 530 horsepower (389kilowatts).
The new crossover will feature updated styling that mimics the X6. The X5 will receive a new grille and slimmer headlights. This will be positioned above a reshaped bumper and revised central intake. BMW will not make any changes to the rear. However, the company will install new taillight graphics. Other changes are not visible in the camouflage. Other tweaks could exist, but they won’t be significant.
We expect BMW to bring the X5 its latest infotainment system inside, including a large, dash-mounted display and the iDrive8 software. This interior upgrade will make the crossover feel fresh in a competitive segment.
The new styling will be applied to the entire X5 lineup, even the X5M. However, the powertrain will not change. The X5 M will still be powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8, which produces 617 hp (560 kW in the X5 M Competition), which should return.
BMW has not yet revealed when the new X5 will be available, but we anticipate it will be available for purchase in the 2023 model year. It might be available first in Europe, before being made available in the US or other markets. The X5 is approaching its fifth birthday and a styling overhaul couldn’t come at a better moment.
